This is what it’s all about

Today was the perfect day.  Today was what I envisaged for all the years we were working and saving up to buy a boat.

After an overnight passage from Cartagena to Formentera in the Balearic Islands, we anchored in a peaceful bay and slept like the dead for 11 hours.

Woke this morning to clear skies and crystal clear seas with a slight chill in the air.

We enjoyed a slow morning pottering on the boat doing odd jobs before taking the dinghy for a spin to explore the caves close to the anchorage.

It’s the first time I’ve been out on the dinghy, which we’ve named Beyond.  She is well balanced and fast. I think we will have a lot of fun together!

After lunch we lifted the anchor and set sail for Ibiza. Conditions were perfect to raise the gennaker for a steady and relaxing six hour down wind sail.  We cruised along in calm waters, so calm I was able to wash the windows on the boat and remove the layer of crusted salt that has formed in the last few days. I have very quickly learnt that boat life requires lots of cleaning, endless cleaning.

We arrived at our anchorage on the north east side of Ibiza just in time to throw a couple of steaks on the BBQ and enjoy dinner as the sun set whilst listening to Chilled Ibiza Volume 1, which has been on our playlist since it was released way back in 2000. It only took us 24 years to get here!

We are the only yacht as far as the eye can see, watched over by a handful of whitewashed luxury villas on the hillside.

Ibiza, the famous party island. The only nightlife on this side of the island is the waves lapping, the birds chirping and the cicadas buzzing. It’s blissfully quiet.
