Rediscovering the Kiwi slice

Estimated Reading Time: < 1 minute

I was woken at sunrise by my own drool on the pillow, the sound of crashing waves in the distance and birdsong overhead – this is going to be a good day!

We drove for an hour to the trail access for New Chum Beach, allegedly one of the best beaches in NZ. Accessible only by a 45 minute scramble over rocks and rough trail, it really was a beaut mate!

We’d packed a picnic, so while other people came, took a selfie and left, we stayed for the afternoon and enjoyed our little slice of paradise. The afternoon passed far too quickly and before we knew it we were scrambling back over the rocks and leaving paradise behind.

Dinner tonight was a BBQ at the campground; beer and mussels to start us off, steak, veggies and wine followed by a whole packet of caramel slice which we had forgotten was a NZ classic…and with good reason!
