We had an early start today and we hadn’t planned ahead so we found ourselves eating leftover pizza for breakfast, but before you judge, I have to say, it was actually very good! Tea and pizza done, we were on our way to visit my cousin James and his family by 8:30 am.
Once we’d said our hello’s to James and Meghan and been introduced to 3 year old Henry for the first time we jumped in their car and drove out to the Yarra Valley about 90 minutes from their house. We had a nice but slow (Henry pace) walk to Stevenson Waterfall then backtracked for a pleasant lunch in Healsville. It struck us how much this region is like the California wine country, lots of parallels. We felt very at home.
Meghan’s parents kindly invited us to stay for dinner but the combination of jetlag and not used to being around a 3 year old had us feeling drained so we decided to head back to the city.
We got back to St Kilda just before sunset so we took a walk down to the pier to see if we would be lucky enough to spot some penguins who reportedly put on a parade every night after sundown. We did see some penguins hanging out in the rocks but felt too tired to hang around for the full on penguin parade, so we grabbed a quick dinner at Abbey Road on Ackland Street.
I could barely keep my eyes open yet we were reminded that Aussie’s party as hard on Sunday as they do Friday and Saturday – good people watching at the restaurant but it wasn’t long before we were back at our accommodation and fast asleep.
