Being in the cruising division of the Pac Cup we are not racing. Well, not officially. However there were squeals of delight yesterday when we heard we’d moved up from 7th to 4th. So, imagine our excitement this morning when we found we are in 2nd place.
Rapture is very definitely a cruising boat and not built to break any records but my goodness, isn’t she doing well!
We had hoped that at her very best Rapture might sail a consistent 6 knots yet here she is averaging 7. Maybe its luck or maybe it’s taking the advice of the weather guy.com but we’re not going to congratulate ourselves too soon…don’t want to rock the boat (pardon the pun!)
On night watch yesterday we spotted a mast light on the horizon behind us, it was SV Sierra. We are not alone out here after all. She slowly gained on us throughout the night until she was clearly visible but then took a sudden turn south and left us all alone again. Tracking her now on the AIS she has lost some speed heading south and is now beating her way north again. Sometimes it pays to stick to your course and not chase the wind.
News on the food front…we are eating like Kings! In fact Neptune himself would be jealous. We will not be shedding any pounds whilst at sea that’s for sure. I managed to cook Blueberry pancakes for breakfast this morning without decorating the galley with pancake mix. No mean feat on a healed boat!
It’s getting warmer each day too. We’re still in foulies but hope to break out the board shorts and rash guards in the next day or 2.
Until then…eat, sleep, sail, repeat.
