Christmas in March

Estimated Reading Time: 2 minutes

I feel like a five year old on Christmas Eve because tomorrow we will get the keys to our new home.

It is not what we thought we wanted when we began our search.  The Cotswolds are full of storybook stone houses and we had dreams of a character property complete with a wood burning fire, a cozy kitchen and beamed ceilings.

I long ago lost count of how many houses we viewed.  Many were too big, some were too small and most were in need of major renovation.  We made unsuccessful offers on a handful of properties which was disappointing in the moment but in hindsight a good thing.

By November we were fed-up and frustrated and cajoled into viewing a newer house that had come up for sale in the village.  Putting aside our romantic ideas of an old Cotswold cottage we quickly saw the attraction of a new house.  Light, bright and low maintenance, we realized this would be the smart choice for us at this time.

So tomorrow is the day we get the keys to our house.  Tomorrow can’t come soon enough.  While I like to think I am not a materialistic person, I am very excited for the container to arrive on Thursday and to be reunited with our belongings from California.  Of all the packed boxes that will arrive,my first priority will be to rummage through and find my favorite mug and then it will be time to put the kettle on and enjoy a cup of tea.  Simple pleasures.

There’s still no boat on the horizon but we are positive something will come up over the summer.  We’ve always planned to call our boat Infinity, but maybe we should consider calling it Patience instead.

  3. I love this post! Such great news. Definitely took longer than I would have anticipated but it might work out better than some of those earlier options by the sounds of it. Congrats on a new house!
