Breaking records on Bruny

Estimated Reading Time: 2 minutes

It was a hot night so we slept with the windows open and were serenaded by the waves all night. The house has lovely bedlinen, I felt like I was in a luxury hotel and yet the whole house was about AUS$150 per night – bargain!

After a hearty bacon roll for breakfast we headed over to Bruny Island Cruises for a 3 hour wilderness cruise to explore wildlife, caves and the rugged coastline.

Bruny has some of Australia’s highest sea cliffs, and it was a great perspective seeing them from the water.  The highlight for me was breathing rock; as it inhaled and exhaled it really did seem as if it was alive.

We saw seals frolicking and playing; jumping off of the rocks into the rough waters, magnificent albatross flew overhead and we briefly felt the power of the Southern Ocean as we entered the point where it meets the Tasman Sea.

On a typical day the crew hand out foulies and monitor for signs of hypothermia but today they handed out sunscreen and watched for signs of sunstroke.  I think they were excited to be out in calm warm conditions, I know I was!

Back at the house we enjoyed a lunch of locally smoked salmon, cheese, olive bread and olives before going to the beach for a swim and a couple of hours relaxing.

The light at sunset tonight was beautiful, photos can’t capture it. The setting with the mountains, trees and beach reminded us both of Cape Tribulation.

I heart Bruny Island
Yes, I do!

The temperatures are due to drop dramatically tomorrow, but for now we enjoyed a sundowner beer on the deck with a glorious view, birds tweeting their goodbyes to the day and us hoping we’ll see a few more wallabies before the night is out.
