Life for Rent

Estimated Reading Time: < 1 minute

In some ways it seems a lifetime ago since I sat in our garden in California and wrote a post about packing up and leaving. In other ways the memory of that day and the emotions are as vivid as if it were only a few days ago.

Since moving back to the UK in June 2022 we’ve had a rented life; a rented home, a rented car and rented storage. We naively expected our rented life to be a temporary situation.  We had it all planned out.  We’d buy a house soon after arriving, then buy a boat over the winter and be ready to embark on our sailing adventures this Spring.

However, life laughed at our optimism, shook its head at our hopes and taught us a lesson in patience as we waited for things to fall into place, at a very slow pace.

Last week the rented car was returned.  This week we hand back the keys to our rented home.  We are about to end our rented life and start the next chapter.

Bye bye rented life

  1. Love this!!! So glad you’re finally heading out on your journey! Wishing you safe travels and amazing experiences! ♥️

  2. Good to hear from you. The Orchard Rd neighborhood looks about the same, except that it’s very green, and a little ways up from your old house sandbags had to be placed across the street to channel of the rainwater properly.
Good luck as you move away from your rentals. Jack
